Data Collection and Storage

As a client of my services, your personal details, contact details and other general relevant information about your situation will be collected during the intake process, with your consent. I will retain this information in a password-protected online secure web based program, in your personal file.

Counsellors are required to keep records of each counselling session for the purposes of monitoring treatment progression, so as I work with you I will continue to add information to your file. Your file will be stored in an online secure web based program. It is certified with ISO 27001, and this international standard recognises their commitment to ensuring the highest global security standards for healthcare data and their security, further information can be found here.

Only your counsellor within Life Talk Counselling can access your file. I am required under State Government legislation to keep written records for 7 (seven) years from our last session together or, if you were under 18 at the last date of contact, the file must be kept until you are 25 years of age. These notes and personal information may be viewed by you upon request.

What information we collect

I collect Personal Information that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information I collect include: names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers. I collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing my services to you.

This Personal Information is obtained in multiple ways including our website opt ins, email correspondence and my scheduling website for booking appointments.

Confidentiality

As a counsellor I will not discuss your personal information or attendance details with anyone outside of Life Talk Counselling, unless you have given me your permission. The only exceptions are when:

  • I have a reasonable belief that there is a risk to your health or safety or that of another person.
  • there is a legal requirement to do so and specifically if you are under 18 years of age.
  • it is necessary for the Life Talk Counselling to obtain legal advice.

I am registered with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia). Registration requires that staff adhere to the professional codes of conduct for this Associations. 

Services

When payment is made for a counselling or supervision session it may request certain personally identifiable information from you. You may be required to provide contact information (such as name, email, and postal address) and financial information (such as credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes only.

Legal

I reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when I believe that disclosure is necessary to protect my rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal processes that arise.

Communications

Life Talk Counselling uses personally identifiable information for essential communications, such as emails, accounts information, and critical service details. I may also use this information for other purposes, including some promotional Emails. If at any time a client wishes not to receive such correspondence, they can request to be removed from any mailing lists by emailing.

You will be notified if your personal information is collected by any third party that is not our service provider, so you can make an informed choice as to whether or not to share your information with that party.
